Description

The Pinasco 251cc engine kit is suitable for all Vespa large frame models such as Vespa PX, T5, Sprint, TS, Rally, Super, GT, GTR, VNA, VNB, VBA, VBB. Also suitable for the Spanish Motovespa such as CL, DN, DS, TX, PX, GS, Sprint, GT160 as well as the license builds from LML / Stella. So the displacement of a 125cc vehicle can be doubled without this would be conspicuous to the outside. Pinasco gives the performance with over 30HP, this is of course strongly dependent on the used components such as exhaust and carburetor. A paradedisziplin of the Pinasco 250cc engine is its high running smoothness, and its good pulling power.

The cases are manufactured in two variants:
MASTER = ROTARY SLIDE INTAKE (LIKE FACTORY PIAGGIO)
SLAVE
= DIAPHRAGM CONTROLLED.

CURB SHAFT
The housing is based in its basic features on the Vespa T5 engine housing.
It has a wide and therefore stable crankshaft. The enclosed Pinasco crankshaft has teeth on the clutch side. Therefore only Pinasco’s own clutch (also included in the set) can be used.

BEARINGS
Crankshaft bearing on alternator side designed as large roller bearing (NU205 25x52x15mm)

SHAFT SEAL
The housings are made to take a metal shaft seal (clutch side). Please always use the version for the 200cc versions with brown sealing lip.

LUBRICATION
Double lubrication hole for the bearing.

FIT
Two additional fitting bushings = crankshafts with overlong stroke can do without the centering edge of the lima half. Dimensions of bushings AØ=9,95mm, IØ=8,40mm, h=13,80mm

GUMMIS
The holes for the large silent rubbers are Ø=44mm (original Piaggio Ø=43mm).
The enclosed silent rubbers are stiffer and offer a better guidance of the engine in the frame. Piaggio silent rubbers fit as well. Solutions with metal bushings or without preload usually do not fit if they are made for Piaggio engine cases (Jockey, PLC).

SPECIAL FEATURES ROTARY VALVE VERSION
The rotary slide intake is much wider than on a PX200, therefore larger carburettors can be used. However, it is possible to continue using the standard carburettor type (SI). Pinasco itself offers a version of an SI carburettor with a Ø28mm cross-section, based on the standard carburettor type. A big advantage is the quiet intake noise of the rotary slide version. No separate lubrication possible like on the Lusso models (there is no preparation for the oil pump drive). An existing carburettor bowl of a model with oil pump can be used, but must be slightly modified (remove centring sleeve for oil pump).

SPECIAL FEATURES DIAPHRAGM VERSION
The version with diaphragm inlet offers a very large inlet cross section. This makes it perfect for those who want to get the maximum power out of the kit by using a big carburettor and the appropriate exhaust.

ASSEMBLY NOTE
The alternator side crankshaft bearing NU205 does not sit flush in the engine housing.
It protrudes approx. 1mm towards the crankshaft.

NECESSARY FOR COMPLETION

The engine internals of all 125-200cc models from 1982 onwards can be used. The components from 1984 on are preferable because of the improved and more stable gearbox. Well suitable as donor engine is also the engine of the COSA models. Their engine block is externally different, but uses the same internals as the PX models from 1992 onwards (note that the primary reduction is shorter: 21/68 instead of 23/65).
The cases are NOT intended for use with an electric starter. A suitable cylinder cover is available from our supplier BSK (3333801).

Please insert all stud bolts with high strength screw adhesive. The cylinder stud bolts do not have an oversize on one side as originally used by Piaggio. Therefore glue in the supplied Pinasco cylinder studs. We recommend to re-cut all threads and to clean them with compressed air.

  • IGNITION: Pinasco Flytech type T5 (due to the large overcurrent channels, no PX components are suitable).
  • CYLINDER HOOD: Type T5 (must be modified)
  • AIRWHEEL COVER: Type T5
  • TRANSMISSION: Type PX Lusso/T5/Cosa/LML. The standard gearbox of the PX125-200 models from 1984 onwards can be used.
  • CLUTCH PINION: Type Cosa2 (recommendation: BGM PRO clutch pinion)
  • CLUTCH COVER: Type PX200
  • PRIMARY DRIVE: Type PX (Recommendation: BGM PRO primary gear straight toothed)
