Description

Gearshift latches are an extremely important component when it comes to shifting precision and the durability of the gear shifting cross. If the detent is disengaged, the transmission tends to shift gears even though the gear has been engaged correctly. This can often be remedied by replacing the detent.

The early PX models up to 1984 still use a gearbox with a cranked shift paddle. Also the shift pin is still equipped with a washer between pin and shifting cross. Here the upper edge of the thrust block (rotatably mounted block on the detent arm) in the position of the third gear stands off approx. 1.5mm from the sealing surface of the shifting notch to the outside.

– LUSSO (1984-)
The models from year 1984 up use the so-called Lusso transmission with flat shifting pad type and shifting pin without washer between pin and shifting pad. Here the upper edge of the thrust block (rotatably mounted block on the ratchet arm) in the position of the third gear is parallel to the sealing surface of the shifting catch .

QUALITY
Note: Under the designation OEM quality we sell shifting catches of different manufacturers which meet our quality standards. Usually they are much better than new original Piaggio shifting gearshift pawls because Piaggio buys randomly in the Far East and packs for very expensive money quite a mess in their boxes.

TIP
The wear and tear of the gear shifting pawl is clearly visible when the cover is removed and when standing still (without running engine) it is tried to shift to another gear. If the detent arm (spring-loaded) clearly has play at its suspension, the detent should be replaced. If the gears still jump out under load, the shift pad and possibly the corresponding gearwheel should be changed.
