Description

Powerful 160cc touring cylinder from CC Corsa with diaphragm inlet for Vespa Wideframe

Gabriele Cagni, founder of CC Corsa from Emilia Romagna in Italy, puts the topic of wideframe tuning on a new footing. His aluminium cylinder developed by Falc Racing with wear-resistant Nicasil coating has a generously dimensioned diaphragm inlet and a modern cylinder layout. The scavenging surfaces and its geometry as well as the exhaust have been redesigned from scratch. They now offer, despite full compatibility with the original engine housing, an enormous increase in power and torque. The used piston with Ø60mm is an old known one from the Polini 152cc cylinder for Rotax engines and known for its very high stability. 40hp is no problem for this piston.

  • Bore: Ø60mm
  • Stroke: 57mm
  • Displacement: 161cc
  • Intake control: diaphragm (plate 0.4mm)
  • Control angle: ca.168°/120° (depending on the thickness of the foot gasket used)
  • Intake manifold: Ø24mm

WHY MEMBRANE INLET

The membrane inlet offers two advantages. Detached from the original piston-operated intake, with its forced symmetrical control pattern, the diaphragm intake automatically controls the intake opening angle. If you always have to make compromises in the lower speed range with a piston-controlled intake for high performance, the diaphragm control is fully in its element here. With it, a high starting torque can be achieved in the lower speed range as well as a high throttle throughput in the middle and upper speed range. The usable engine speed range thus rises sharply and the engine becomes significantly more drivable despite increased power.

POWER AND TORQUE
An engine upgraded with CC Corsa cylinders achieves over 9hp rear wheel power at just 4000rpm. This is already twice as much as an original VM125 can produce as maximum power. Besides, the engine has already 16Nm at only 4000rpm, a value that many original 200cc do not reach.
The torque maximum of over 20Nm is reached only a few hundred revolutions later (approx. 4800rpm) and is then kept at a high level until over 6500rpm. With this the engine then produces around 18hp, depending on the exhaust system and carburettor size used.

CURB SHAFT
The cylinder is designed for 57mm stroke and therefore requires the crankshaft of the 150cc models.
The BGM crankshaft BGM057110 is the ideal choice here and harmonizes perfectly with the CC Corsa cylinder. So with a conventional setup (with box exhaust like the RR-Box as well as a modern carburetor like the Polini CP23/24 or Dell’Orto PHBL24/25) already 18hp can be realized at the crankshaft without much effort.

DELIVERY

The delivery includes all small parts needed for the assembly. This includes the intake manifold with diaphragm, gaskets including connecting rubber and clamps as well as the screwed exhaust manifold. Also included are foot gaskets of different thicknesses to adapt the cylinder perfectly to the respective engine (with regard to the squeezing edge between piston and cylinder head).
